How to Prepare

During your first appointment, your urologist will go over any test results with you. You should be sure to bring:

  • Your insurance card and photo ID
  • Any recent imaging or blood test results
  • A food and drink diary (if you were asked to complete one before your appointment)
  • A list of any medicines you currently take
  • A list of any questions you have for the urologist

You may also want to drink water before your appointment or bring water with you as you will be asked for a urine sample.

What to Expect

When you first arrive, you’ll check in at the appointment desk where they will ask you to fill out some forms and provide any information you brought with you. One of our dedicated medical assistants will then call you into the office and ask you to provide a urine sample before your appointment begins.

You will then meet with the urologist. The urologist may ask questions about the problems you are experiencing, such as what symptoms you have and if you have a family history of any urological problems like prostate cancer.

Your urologist will then go over any test results with you. If necessary, they may check your prostate, kidneys, bladder and external genitals to detect any problems.

After the exam a possible diagnosis will be discussed with you as will the next steps in your plan of care. Additional tests may be ordered. Be sure to ask any questions you have before you leave so you feel prepared for the next stages of your care.
